Pet Search Editorial Policy
This policy explains how Pet Search researches, sources and reviews the guidance published on this site, and how to tell us if something is wrong.

Purpose
Pet Search publishes practical missing pet information to help owners make informed decisions during a search. The aim is to be useful within the first few minutes of reading, not to produce long articles.
Sources
Where a factual claim needs support, we prioritise credible sources: recognised animal welfare organisations, UK government guidance, the Civil Aviation Authority, established microchip database operators and professional operational guidance.
We cite the source on the page where the claim appears, with the time period and context stated where a statistic is used. We do not copy source text, and we do not cite sources for obvious statements.
Drone search content
Drone search pages describe operational reality, including what equipment cannot do. Content in this area is reviewed for operational accuracy by Pet Search Drone Operations before publication.
We do not claim thermal cameras can see through walls, roofs, trees or solid objects, and we do not present any search method as guaranteed.
Animal behaviour
Missing pet behaviour varies considerably between individual animals, breeds, temperaments and circumstances. Our guidance uses cautious wording such as some dogs may or some cats may, rather than presenting behaviour as universal.
Where evidence is strong and widely accepted, we say so directly. Where advice varies between organisations, for example the use of scent items, we say that too.
Veterinary advice
Pet Search content is general information. It is not a replacement for professional veterinary advice. If a pet is injured, unwell or has been missing long enough to raise health concerns, contact a vet.
Updating content
Pages may be reviewed and updated as guidance, evidence or operational capability changes. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.
Corrections
If you believe something on this site is factually wrong, email partners@petsearch.uk with the page address and the issue. We will check it against the source and correct or remove the claim where needed.
